This year's Christmas tree

As much as I love Christmas and having the house decorated, I must admit that last weekend (Thanksgiving weekend -- when I would typically decorate the house), I just wasn't feeling motivated to pull the tree out of the basement, put the whole thing up, string the lights, and do the ornaments.  I kept putting it off all weekend, and would have even put it off all the way to this weekend, I think, except that John offered to work with me to set it up last Sunday evening.

I quickly got out of my funk, and turned some Christmas music on!  The kids were actually a really big help as we had to get the space cleaned up and move some furniture to fit the tree in the corner of the living room.

I had always had a real tree growing up, and I love the memories that I have of going to find the perfect tree and decorating it as a family.  John, however, never found as much joy in this process as I did after we got married.  The first year we were married he humored me and, although he didn't enjoy it, we got a real tree.  Our second Christmas together brought a trip to the tree farm to get a real tree, a very frustrated hubby not able to get the tree to stand straight, a real tree being thrown out onto our back deck, and a trip to the store to buy an artificial tree.  I let go of those perfect memories that I had from growing up when I realized that what makes those special memories of putting up the Christmas tree isn't the tree itself, but the people you make the memories with.  It just so happens that our memories are now made in the comfort of our own home and our tree requires no watering and never drops a single needle!  Not a bad deal!

Anyway, we worked as a family to get the tree up this year, right down to the very last ornament placed on the tree.  The tree is a little bottom-heavy this year, but both kids worked hard to find the perfect spot for each ornament, and we love our family tree.

Trey and Rowan were both so excited to look for the colored tags on all of the branches while John and I put them on the tree.  They did a great job!

No photos of the process.  We were busy!

Finally, it was time to decorate our tree!

The kids special ornaments came first - the ones that they had made or received in the past.  I love how each ornament holds it's own memory.
Last year we waited until Rowan was in bed to put our ornaments on, so it was really fun this year that she could join us!

Man, it was hard to get a picture of Rowan!  She is on the move all. the. time!!!  Seriously, she never stops!  Keeps this momma on her toes!!  She would quickly grab an ornament, and place it on the first branch she saw.  All of hers ended up grouped together.

Then there was Trey.  He was so deliberate and even asked me to place some of his higher to even things out.

A couple of cute shots of the kids to finish off a fun night!
